The Flow and the Focus at Summer Camp 2026
Blog Post by Abby Swartz at Focus on Nature
Hi y’all! If you have been keeping up on Instagram and Facebook, you know that we have partnered with Headwaters Wilderness Program to run 6 weeks of summer camp in Algonquin Provincial Park. Isn’t that exciting?! This blog post serves to tell you ALL about it and to get you pumped up for all the photography and canoeing action we have in store this upcoming summer!
OK, so first, imagine a place where the thrill of outdoor adventure meets the art of nature photography. Picture paddling along a serene river, the sun kissing your face, only to look up and see a beautiful bird. Luckily, you pull out your camera and capture the breathtaking beauty of Algonquin Park through your camera lens. This isn't just a dream—it's the reality of our combined nature photography summer camps with the summer camp programming of Headwaters Wilderness Program. This summer is the first time we are running an overnight camp alongside another organization, and we cannot wait for this exciting opportunity!
So, why settle for just one adventure when your camper can have two? Our unique camp collab is designed to inspire young people’s passion for the great outdoors, the art of photography, and the ability to get active outside. A day at camp may look like spending a morning mastering canoeing techniques and participating in exhilarating outdoor activities. Then, after lunch, campers transition into the peaceful practice of nature photography, learning how to frame the perfect shot, understanding technical principles, and capturing the wildlife of the area. It's a blend that offers both physical movement and engagement with canoeing and mindful artistic expression.
What makes this camp truly special is the opportunity to see nature from multiple perspectives. As these young campers paddle, hike, snap flicks, and connect with fellow nature lovers, they discover hidden gems and stunning landscapes that most people never get to see. And with a camera in hand, they learn to preserve these moments, telling stories through their images and sharing THEIR version of nature with us. Whether a camper is a seasoned photographer or a beginner, our trained instructors will guide them every step of the way, helping develop new skills, create lasting memories, and foster a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
Ready to embark on this unforgettable summer camp collaboration? Register now and prepare for a summer filled with adventure, creativity, and the beauty of the great outdoors.
